The Invasion of Venezuela

Venezuela faces an invasion from the United States of America. After Caracas was bombed President Nicolas Maduro was kidnapped by US forces. The act of aggressive war was designed to undermine a leftist government in South America. Now it appears that Venezuelan oil will fall under the possession of the US. The media reported that Nicolas Maduro was " captured." The world only applies to countries at war and no formal declaration was given. The military action seems close to the 1989 invasion of Panama or the 2004 intervention in Haiti. Kidnapping a head of state could be classified  as violation of international law. The Trump administration has charged President Nicolas Maduro with drug trafficking, but no evidence has been provided. Having a trial would be nothing more than political persecution. Oil tankers have been seized and national sovereignty was violated. Venezuela is being transformed into  a puppet state. Concerns about larger military engagements and occupation are growing. The US is showing its general disdain for Latin Americans and this could result in discord. The United States has a growing South American population and many will not remain silent. A Venezuelan war would produce refugees. This would only increase migration to the US or Canada. The invasion of Venezuela is a warning to all South American countries. Aggression is being directed at the entire continent and a network of security is needed. Colombia, Nicaragua, Cuba, and Brazil must form a defensive alliance to product independence.

Russia Strikes Kiev

Russia launched strikes on Kiev. This symbolizes how precarious Ukraine situation has become. Ukraine is losing the war and Russia could retain the Donbas. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the Russian Federation does not want peace. Peace proposals were presented prior to 2025, but rejected. NATO expansion is not ending and Ukraine desires to become a member. The European Union wants to militarize, while the US is trying to get warring parties to accept a 20 point peace plan. According to President Zelensky, Russia is using a large number of drones to target civilian infrastructure. The Russian Federation striking civilian targets constitutes war crimes. Ukraine is not guilt free considering its efforts going after targets in Russia. More debates are going on about what are the next steps. President Vladimir Putin insisted the only path is resolution through military force. The Minsk Accords were violated not by Russia, but by Ukraine and the EU countries funding far-right militias .  The US-EU block does not want to lose influence over Ukraine. While its unlikely that all of Ukraine would get absorbed into the Russian Federation, the Donbass will be lost. The Russia-Ukraine War is not an attempt to rebuild the Soviet Union or Russian Empire. Rather, this was the result of two world powers trying to make Ukraine a sphere of influence and the transformation of NATO into an anti-Russian alliance. Now discussions are taking place of a formation of a European Army. The Russia-Ukraine War is being used to justify the militarization of Europe. France and the UK are advocating a dangerous policy. Europe would not be able to recover from another continent wide conflict. The war could end either with the fall of the government or opting for an unconditional surrender.

Richard Cheney Discusses The Gulf War (1994)

Richard Cheney ( 1941-2025) was a prominent neoconservative who served as Vice President under George W. Bush. Cheney was considered the architect of the the 2003 Iraq War.  As Secretary of Defense under George H.W. Bush, his attitude differed in regards to policy. Speaking to C-Span in 1994, Cheney insisted that Removal of Saddam Hussein would have been an error. Syria and Iran would become more powerful. More conflict would emerge for the demand for Kurdish national self-determination. What change Richard Cheney's mind was his connection to Haliburton. Cheney was CEO of the oil service company from 1995 to 2000. The reason he left was to be on the Republican ticket as Vice President. The invasion of Iraq was not only to have more control of West Asia, but to make the region more favorable to US energy corporations. Haliburton benefited financially from the invasion of Iraq. Vice President Cheney promoted aggressive war to ensure profits for oil corporations. His war crimes and links to torture will never br prosecuted. During the 2010s, Cheney was still seen as respectable in political circles. Violence and corruption can no longer be sanitized with Iraq becoming a failed state.

Israel Intends Complete Conquest of the Gaza Strip

The Gaza-Israel War continues unrestricted. Israel asserts that the military objective was to rescue the hostages. Instead, the attack is more of a war of aggression seeking regime change. After several attempts at a ceasefire the Likud Party reveals its true intentions. Territorial expansion and annexing certain areas are the main objectives. Israel is trying to stop the creation of a Palestinian state. Simultaneously the Zionist state wants to keep Syria and Lebanon in a weakened conditions. Israel is forming what is known as security zones. These areas have a huge IDF occupation, but do not allow Palestinians to remain. Arabs residing in Israel are under a threat. Those refugees seeking to escape are at risk. The bombing of refugee camps has occurred. Rafah is a pathway to Egypt. Palestinians are going to have to find safety in neighboring Arab states. If the atrocities continue to escalate Jordan and Egypt are going to be forced to respond. The treaties that have been signed with Israel might not remain in place. Israel is absorbing mostly southern Gaza. The buffer zones being formed are nothing more than territories that will be added to the Zionist state. Palestinians have few options for self-defense and resistance. Hamas is not an effective fighting force. The PFLP and PLO are not as equipped compared to the Israeli military. The only country that has the potential to stop Israel is Iran. The complication is that Arab states are suspicious of the Islamic Republic. The Gulf monarchies are western aligned and see Iran as a security risk. Hamas has released hostages, but 24 are thought to be imprisoned in Gaza. A deal was proposed that these hostages would be released if Israel ends the war. The offer was refused. The blowback could be immense. Citizens from other Arab states could come to the Gaza Strip to participate in armed resistance. If Arab leaders look pusillanimous in the face of Israeli aggression, anti-government protests could breakout. Palestine is fighting now to resist the last major outpost of settler colonialism. The war crimes in the Gaza Strip prove Israel never wanted peace, only conquest.

The Russia-Ukraine Conflict And The Use of ATACMS

Ukraine has been supplied with MGM-140 Army Tactical Missile Systems. Ukraine has attacked inside Russian territory and now it is being with more weapons. The use of ATACMS proves that the conflict in Eastern Europe is a proxy war between NATO and the Russian Federation. Ukraine's chances of winning the conflict have decreased. Recapturing the Donbas and Crimea are out of reach. The Biden administration supplying ATACMS is another escalation in the Russia-Ukraine War. The Russian Federation asserted the conflict was a special military operation, but it is apparent NATO wants to be aggressive with the Russian Federation. There is little hope that with an incoming Trump administration that a peace settlement will be obtained. The European Union is thus left to figure out how to manage an energy crisis and a new wave of Ukrainian refugees. President Biden's supply of ATACMS is an attempt to reverse Ukraine's military failures. The conditions have worsened with the US embassy being shut. The Russian Federation could retaliate with massive airstrikes. Some European leaders are realizing that arming Ukraine is causing more destabilization of Europe. Chancellor Olaf Scholz has expressed he will not supply Taurus long range missiles to the conflict. This is not so much for peace, but due to the fact an election is approaching in Germany. Chancellor Scholz has spoken with President Vladimir Putin. This was the first time since December of 2022. There is no indication in the hour long phone call that a peace settlement was discussed. Germany might be more interested in continuing its economic partnership with the Russian Federation. The recent shipment of arms from the UK and US are not going to produce  the military defeat of the Russian Federation. It has been speculated that some want the war to continue for the sake of the arms industry. Lockheed Martin is that main producer of ATACMS. The Russia-Ukraine War provides a market for various weapons.

Sudan's War Induced Balkanization

Sudan is balkanizing due to civil war. The Rapid Support Forces control a significant portion of the eastern section of  the country. The RSF is not the only group fighting. The Sudan Liberation Movement and the Sudan People's Liberation army are active in combat. Those two rebel factions control the least amount territory. The Sudan Armed Forces is fighting a war to keep Sudan whole. A victory by the Sudan Armed Forces does not mean liberation from oppression or violence. Sudan is under the rule of a military regime. President  Abdel Fattah al-Burhan will use the civil war as an excuse to maintain power. Even if the RSF is defeated, the military regime will make a justification for restrictions rights and political opposition. President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan at the UN accused the RSF of atrocities, but ignored the army's role in violence. His demand is that the RSF withdraw from the land they have taken if  they want a peace deal. There are indications that the United Arab Emirates and Egypt have some degree of involvement in the conflict. The UAE has been accused of supporting the RSF. Egypt was accused by Mohamed Dagalo of conducting airstrikes on the behalf of the Sudan Armed Forces. What happens in Sudan will effect its neighbors. Large numbers of people are constantly being displaced.  The Sudan Armed Forces continue to fight despite efforts to make a ceasefire. The objectives are to regain lost territory and subdue the RSF. The next step is to take back the capital Khartoum. If the government fails either the RSF takes over all of Sudan or it breaks up into smaller countries. After RSF violence a portion of Sudanese will never accept the RSF as a legitimate government. The map of East Africa could be changed depending on the war's outcome.

Israel Invades Lebanon

Israel continues to disturb the peace in West Asia. The invasion of Lebanon has opened another front in the Israel-Gaza War. The invasion has nothing to do with fighting Hamas. Hezbollah does show solidarity with Palestinian resistance. This is not designed to undermine the fight against occupation. Israel is seeking to expand its borders. The consequences of fighting both Hamas and Hezbollah gets Israel closer to a full scale confrontation with Iran. The motivation is to become the most dominant power in the Middle East region and clear space for Israeli settlement. Other Arab states should be concerned about growing Israeli aggression. Jordan, Iraq, and Syria are at risk. Saudi Arabia could one day face violence from Israel. Yemen continues to resist with Houthi fighters. The expansion of the war has created a dire humanitarian crisis. Ethnic cleansing and genocide are occurring in both the Gaza Strip as well as the West Bank. The violence is part of the Greater Israel project. Although the Movement for Greater Israel ended in the 1970s, the ideas remain. The desire to conquer and replace Arabs with European Ashkenazim Jewish populations. If the war keeps going it may force Arab states to intervene. The citizens of those populations are expressing much anger about the deaths caused by the IDF. Beirut has sustained bombings from Israel. The invasion of Lebanon has only isolated Israel diplomatically. These acts of  military aggression are the start of  a Zionist empire. Lebanon now has to fight to for its sovereignty against an invading nation.

Israel Expands War Against Hezbollah

Israel continues to expand the conflict in the Middle East. Hezbollah when Gaza was attacked aided the resistance by firing rockets into Israel. What Israel did was respond with an act of terrorism. Across Lebanon pagers exploded. This was not designed to harm the leadership, but also attack the Lebanese population. The West Bank is also being absorbed into the Israeli state. What Israel claimed was an operation to free hostages and do a punitive operation against Hamas is really annexation. The long term goal is to destroy armed resistance to colonization efforts. The discussion of a two state solution or the creation of one is not possible under these conditions. The Knesset voted against a two state solution. The conflict with Lebanon has much to do with occupation. Lebanon was under Israeli occupation from 1985 to 2000. Although Israel withdrew they maintain the Shebaa Farms. The argument is that it was not part of the Golan Heights. Disputes over borders remain and this also involves complaints by Syria. Israeli may be seeking to add Ghajar to its domains. Hezbollah objects to this change in borders. Kfar Chouba is also remains a disputed area. When Israel engaged in a war with Hezbollah in 2006, they lost. Another outcome like that could be possible. What is precarious is Israel's move to regional war. Syria could get involved as well as Iran. Jordan and Egypt might be pressured by their citizens to abandon treaties made with Israel. Turkish public opinion tends to favor the Palestinian cause. The push for the creation of Greater Israel makes the region more unstable. West Asia is getting closer to a massive conflict similar to the Six Day War  in 1967.

Hillary Clinton Disparages Student Protesters

Hillary Clinton has expressed her distain for student protesters. Across the country university students are voicing their discontent with US support for Israel's war on Gaza. Appearing on MSNBC the former Secretary of State asserted the students did not understand history of the Middle East. The commentary was condescending and represents the arrogance of the foreign policy establishment. To call all student protesters uninformed is an insult to the universities they attend. Her attitude is common of the baby boomer generation and political centrist who do not acknowledge other perspectives. Most Americans understand that Israel was built up as an outpost to enforce US foreign policy in West Asia. Regime change in the Middle East and North Africa has resulted in the current instability. Arming terrorist organizations in Syria, invading Iraq, and bombing Libya caused a refugee crisis. Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State was involved in the coup in Honduras, the strikes in Syria, and the removal of Qaddafi in Libya. Her actions  can best be described as war crimes. Prior to these statements, Clinton offered to help the Biden campaign. Based on her comments, President Biden should distance herself from Hillary Clinton. The polls show that President Biden is struggling with the youth vote. Antagonizing university students makes reelection more difficult. Hillary Clinton ignores the fact that the William Jefferson Clinton administration failed to obtain a peace settlement. The 2000 Camp David Summit did not produce any meaningful results.  The Jimmy Carter administration was able to produce a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt. Since 1978 the Camp David Accords have held, but the future is looking less certain. Hillary Clinton's statements do not only reflect ignorance, but a disdain for those who have concerns regarding human rights in Palestine.

The Israel-Gaza War

Hostages were taken October 7, 2023  by Hamas. Israel responded with a campaign to annex Gaza. The reason for the capture of hostages was to have Palestinians who were imprisoned exchanged. Israel asserts that it wants to enhance its security and curtail terrorism. The actual objective by the government is to expand Israel's borders. Most analysts call the recent conflict the Hamas-Israel War. This ignores the actual nature of the confrontation. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is waging a war on Gaza, not the political party that controls the territory. The Zionist state does not want a nation with Arabs. Israel holds limited regard for its Somalian, Ethiopian, and Sudanese population. Arabs and Africans have no place in the theocratic ethnostate being created.  The Israel-Gaza War is a more precise description of the crisis in West Asia. Stopping an independent Palestinian state and incorporating more land into Israel are the motivations for violence. The hostages are an after thought. If there was a desire to get them all back unharmed, the Mossad  could have extracted them. Instead bombings and ground invasion are being used as a means of retaliation. The map of the Middle East could be changed once more. Just like the Six Day War Israel seeks to gain more territory. A new Nakaba is taking place similar to the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. As the civilian deaths mount, Arab nations continue to grow more vexed. The longer the war goes on the greater chance of a regional war. Egypt and Jordan are coming under pressure for a response. Iran's involvement would include the support of Syria  and Hezbollah in Lebanon. The region has oil reserves, which can be effected by a region wide war. The consequences related to the global economy has the potential to be devasting. The Israel-Gaza War is the culmination of  racism , Israeli occupation, and the settler colonial ambitions of the Zionist state.

The Gaza Strip has been under Israeli occupation since 1967. The area remains encircled by a wall and is under blockade  by Israel. The Gaza Strip was for a period under Egyptian military rule from 1949 to Egypt's defeat in the Six Day War. During Israel's wars with its Arab neighbors Palestinians were not allowed to return. Instead they remained  refugees. The year 2005 marked a turning point. Israel withdrew its forces and removed settlers. Israel still had control of the borders and airspace. Elections were held in 2006. Hamas was able to win the parliamentary elections against Fatah. The response by the EU, Israel, and the United States was to impose sanctions. Disunity between Palestinian political parties  and organizations resulted in civil disturbance. Since 2007 after the failure of the coalition government Hamas retained control of the Gaza Strip, while Fatah remains in the West Bank. Israel would then launch a series of military strikes on the Gaza Strip. The first major attack was between 2008 to 2009. The Israel bombed Gaza in 2012 and then again from 2014. The last military strike before the recent conflict was in 2021.

The purpose of these attacks by Israel was to ensure the control of Gaza and undermine the leadership in the area. Targeted assassinations have been Israel's policy against Hamas leadership. With all these strikes more Palestinian civilians die. The air strikes caused massive damage to buildings and infrastructure. Hospitals, schools, residential areas, and UN facilities have been attacked.  The Israel-Gaza War is not using air strikes only. Ground invasion is underway which means possible annexation. Gaza City has gradually become surrounded by the Israeli Defense Force. The population has limited access to clean drinking water, electricity, and medical care. Hospitals have been subject to bombings. The refugees do not have options and Arab nations are not accepting them.
Hamas does not have the ability to defeat the IDF. The armed wing of the political party is known as the al-Qassam Brigades. When ever there is combat these are the soldiers that fight in Gaza. The fighting force is estimated to be 30,000 according to Israeli intelligence. The al-Qassam Brigades does not have a navy, air force, or tanks to compete with the Israeli military. The confrontation thus is an uneven one. Hamas' al-Qassam Brigades has to use asymmetric warfare or guerilla tactics. Rocket strikes and terrorism are not going to defeat Israel. The assertion that Israel is in danger is exaggerated to push expansion into Gaza. The extent of the tunnel networks is not entirely known. Israel has accused Gaza of using tunnel networks to transport weapons from outside the territory. Tunnel networks are not like bunkers or command centers. Hamas is not formidable enough to force a military defeat of Israel or make a peace settlement. If Hamas did want to defeat Israel it would require help from another regional power. Iran has not provided aid in this recent conflict. However, Hezbollah  could be drawn into the conflict. Israel's occupation of Lebanon from 1985 to 2000, left it many enemies. Hezbollah has connections with Iran and that would mean a wider regional war. The al-Qassam Brigades and Hezbollah are not strong enough to invade or capture Israeli land. What both armies could do is open a multiple front war. The IDF would have to fight both in the north and west . Syria if it was not in a state of civil war,  that would mean another front would be opened  in the east. Israel has been bombing Syria which means it is in a state of war with that country. If Syria were to completely stabilize and defeat armed groups its energies would be directed at Israel. Hamas at the moment does not have Syria or a dedicated Hezbollah to assist. Hezbollah is better equipped to fight a defensive war, rather than doing an offensive military operation. Jordan and Egypt are not going to attack due to the fact they have signed treaties with Israel. The situation would be different if this were no the case. The al-Qassam Brigades does not have a strategy to win a long term conflict. The narrative that Israel is a victim of  the  confrontation collapses with the analysis of military strength and regional conditions.
The dramatic increase in racism was inevitable. Israel's objectives have shifted. Saving hostages was the excuse for the violence. At the end of October, the goal was regime change in Gaza. Simultaneously, annexation will be part of this project. When the conflict is over Gaza will not be habitable. The removal of those who remain will be official Israeli policy. This also related to conditions in the West Bank. Settlers have already attacked the local population. The forced changes in demographics demonstrate a process of ethnic cleansing. Jewish settlers will replace Arab populations in both the West Bank and Gaza. The war also serves another purpose. The concern about another intifada happening has been thought of in Israel's security planning. Years of abuse could spark a mass uprising not just in the occupied territories, but across the country. Israel has an Arab population and as measures get more draconian they might sympathize with the Palestinians in the occupied territories. The structure of the state is using bantustans system of  the South African Apartheid regime  as a model. Israel by building walls around Gaza and the West Bank is imposing racial segregation. Arabs are regulated to a second class citizenship. Those in Gaza or the West Bank do not have citizenship at all. A two state solution was never an agreement Israel wanted. The last attempts were failures under the facilitation of the United States. Israel is  wants a state for European  Ashkenazi Jews only. The only reason non-European Jews would be allowed in the country is to contribute the nation's growth. They need more numbers to counter the indigenous population. This explains why there is an effort to kill children in Gaza and the West Bank. Israel wants to have the demographics work in its favor.
Israeli occupation was justified by the government as a method of defense. The assertion is that Israel has the right to exist and defend itself. People have the right to exist, but the borders of nations have changed throughout history. A country will respond when attacked. However, use of the phrase right to defend yourself is a cover for military occupation. At the moment there are few countries in the region that could challenge Israel in terms of military power. Iran has the potential to do so, but lacks nuclear capability. Resistance groups, terrorist organizations, or political parties cannot bring about an Israel defeat. The aid from the United States ensures that Israel survives. Without the aid from the European Union as well, Israel would not be able to succeed. Israel uses groups such as Islamic Jihad, Hamas, the PLO, and Hezbollah as reason to occupy Arab land. The implication is without the occupation Israel would be overrun. The past wars in 1948, 1967, and 1973 have shown Israel would be difficult to defeat. A national liberation movement for Palestine cannot succeed militarily without a powerful Arab coalition. The groups trying to resist are minimally effective. Israel might not want to wipe them out completely. The long time excuse was that military occupation was designed as a series of buffer zones. The occupation was not actually about buffer zones, but removing populations and utilizing the land for Israel's economic benefit. Framers want more land in the West Bank and to sell their produce to EU countries. The Ben Gurion Canal project involves construction through the Gaza Strip. The challenge is that it would require removing populations and clearing the area. Building the canal would means there would be a ship transport area other than the Suez Canal. The war on Gaza has an economic motivation. The occupation was the first step in a much larger national project.
Israel was never a Jewish state. Over the past 75 years, it has been a Zionist state. Judaism is a religion, while Zionism is a nationalist ideology. Judaism and Zionism are the the same. Zionism may take aspects religion, but the idea focuses on statehood, rather than theology . The nationalist movement had its origins in eastern and central Europe. The concept of return and the that the land belonged to Jews emerged from the Haskala movement. Theodore Herzel during the 19th century believed Jews assimilating in European society was not the best position to take to combat anti-Jewish hatred. Jews needed a homeland, because of the growing antisemitism  in Europe. The Ottoman Empire refused to allow Zionist settlement, so Herzel made appeals to the British Empire. Uganda was offered as a place for settlement, but most Zionists wanted Palestine. When Israel was established  in 1948 the settler colonialist convictions and nationalist goals materialized. Israel was to be a state for Jews only, which meant expulsion of the Arab population. Simultaneously, areas that were Arab would be replaced with Jewish populations. Zionism basically takes elements of a religion then uses it as a justification for a colonial state. If the establishment of the country was based on ancient boundaries there who be two states. The Kingdom of Israel and the Kingdom of Judea were two separate political entities. This brings into question of Jewish right to return. The majority of Israelis cannot trace their ancestry back to 1200 B.C.E. The conclusion is that Israel is not different from New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, the US, and the South American countries. The indigenous populations faced extermination by an invading force. The attack on Gaza and other conquest was a logical culmination of Zionist thought. After the war, Gaza will be redeveloped to make way for Israeli residents. Those who do survive will either have to flee to the Sinai peninsula or make the dangerous journey to Europe.
The war is not like past strikes. The objectives include regime change, forced removal of populations, and labor exploitation. Israel does have the advantage, but there have been repercussions for aggressive war. The Houthi rebels are attacking ships ,n the Red Sea. The strikes on Israeli ships began in November and increased the following months. As images of Gaza are seen around the world , Israel becomes more isolated. While the governments of America and Europe support Israel's war a growing number of protests are spreading internationally. African, Asian, and South American countries are more sympathetic to Palestinians due to historical circumstances. The lugubrious reminder of colonial oppression still is part of the Global South's consciousness. Israel while winning a military operation is losing the propaganda war. Asserting that Israel is a victim of an antisemitic conspiracy can no longer be used to cover up human rights violations. Refugee camps are also targets of  military strikes. This is evidence that forced removal is being enacted. No reports suggest that Hamas has fighters in refugee camps. The deliberate  murder of civilians are war crimes, which Israel will never be punished for. The protection it gets from the United Nations allows the country to avoid sanctions or a UN resolution directed at it. Israel at the moment cannot be defeated and the West will not stop its economic relationship with the nation. Instability within Israel itself  possibly would bring the war to an end. Soldiers could mutiny or demonstrations paralyze the government. Removal of  prime ministers does not result in a change in policy. The protests against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are for the judicial reform and political corruption. The demonstrations are not for racial equality or the support of Palestine. The war would continue, even if his government was voted out of office. The anti-Netanyahu protests began prior to the war. The conflict has prevented his government from collapse. A distraction allows Netanyahu to avoid criminal charges for abuses in office. The Israel-Gaza War will spill into other countries. Iraq might become another theater of war, with the United States attack on the Kataib militia. Hezbollah backed militias and other Iranian backed armed groups could be directed at US forces in the region and Israel. The Israel-Gaza War could alter the regional dynamic of West Asia.

Henry Kissinger Protested At Senate Armed Services Committee (2015)

Henry Kissinger served as national security advisor and secretary of state. Under both the Nixon and Ford administrations he was connected with war crimes. Kissinger's role in the atrocities in the Vietnam War involved promoting long term bombings. This effected both Laos and Cambodia. He was also instrumental in the coup in Chile and Indonesia's invasion of East Timor. What historians also forget to mention is Kissinger's determination to halt Angola's liberation war against white minority colonial rule. When Kissinger  was coming to provide testimony at the Armed Services Committee, he was protested by CODEPINK. The anti-war demonstrators proceeded to to remind the public of his human rights violations. When this happened in 2015 the US was at war with Afghanistan, arming terrorist organizations in Syria, and getting confrontational with China. The fact that Henry Kissinger was still deemed a respectful figure in American society demonstrates the amount of corruption in the American political system.

Representative Barbara Lee Votes Against The Afghanistan War (2001)

US Representative Barbara Lee was one of the few congress members to vote against the authorization of force against Afghanistan. The 9/11 attacks made the public and government vexed as well as frightened. An invasion Lee stated would not reduce international terrorism. If Al-Qaeda was a large network, it would not matter which country was invaded. The Taliban did not order the attacks and the culprits were not even from Afghanistan. Barbara Lee throughout here political career as opposed military intervention. The video of this vote is a warning about the military industrial complex and its influence over US foreign policy. The US-Afghan War was one of America's longest conflicts. The result was a defeat and the return of the Taliban to power. The question remains why does Lee continue to be part of a Democratic Party that does not value peace. This issue will continue to divide the Democratic Party.

The Rajapaksas Could Be Losing Their Grip on Power

Resignations, protests, and economic crisis is disrupting Sri Lanka. These challenges highlight long term problems the country has faced over the past decades. The Rajapaksas under these conditions might fall from power. Their power is comparable to the Sharifs or Shinawatras. Pakistan and Thailand have powerful political families. The case with both those countries is that they eventually are forced from power. The pattern might be repeating in Sri Lanka. The population does not want a dynasty ruling for decades. That model of political system is only tolerated when material conditions are high. Now Sri Lanka faces inflation and supply shortages. The cost of living has increased dramatically. The Rajapaksas could face criminal charges related to corruption. Gotabaya Rajapaksa the former president, could be charged for graft. More charges could be made related to the civil war, which ended in 2009. The abuse of the Tamils has been given more focus. The war against the Tamil Tigers did result in atrocities that have not been fully investigated. At the moment most of the Rajapaksas remain in the country. If political and economic issue continue to grow, their hold on the system will weaken. The question of war crimes and corruption might force some of the Rajapaksas to flee. Gotabaya left and remains in Singapore. Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned as prime minister, but still remains active in politics. Basil Rajapaksa attempted to escape and was apprehended by immigration authorities at an airport.

Julian Assange Discusses The Release of Iraq War Documents ( 2010)

Julian Assange is on his way to being extradited to the United States. Both political parties Democratic and Republican have animosity for Julian Assange. The reason relates to the release of documents regrading America's abuses in both Iraq and Afghanistan. A large body of evidence shows the United States engaged in war crimes. Whistle blowers have been persecuted  in the United States for exposing corruption and human  rights violations at the highest level of government. The documents that were released in 2010 show that 104,000 Iraqis died in a period of six years. The 400,000 documents reveal torture, abuse from the coalition installed government, and the murder of civilian populations. Wikileaks also exposed that between a six year period deaths in Afghanistan came to 20,000 people. Assange was accused of being a Russian asset and a national security risk for exposing the crimes of  both the Bush and Obama administration. Assange if he comes to the US will not be safe. As of 2022 there are legal efforts underway to prevent his extradition. It can be argued that he is being falsely imprisoned, because Assange did not commit a criminal offense. Press freedom and journalism are under threat from a political establishment that does not want their abuses known.

Colin Powell Makes The Case For The Iraq War At The UN (2003)

Colin Powell (1937-2021)  on February 5th 2003  made the case for war against Iraq at the UN. The speech he gave at the UN Security Council was designed to get a use of force authorization. Secretary of State Powell made the accusation that Saddam Hussein was producing weapons of mass destruction and aiding terrorist  organizations. The evidence provided were satellite images,  phone calls, and testimony from other sources. What was presented to the UN Security Council  was not true. Iraq was not amassing arms nor was it assisting  al-Qaeda. The US did not get the multilateral military alliance it desired. Instead there was a dramatic shift to unilateral military intervention. The US Report on Iraq was a declaration of aggressive war. Colin Powell contributed to this. His reputation was damaged for his involvement. As time passed Colin Powell abandoned the Republican Party.  His service as Secretary of State lasted from 2001 to 2005. The US became more active in warfare generating international condemnation.

Donald Rumsfeld on CNN (2002)

Donald Rumsfeld (1932- 2021) served as Secretary of Defense for both the Gerald R. Ford and George W. Bush administrations. During the early 2000s he was making the case for the invasion of Iraq. Rumsfeld made an appearance on CNN September 12, 2002. He was one of the major architects of the Iraq War. Here in the interview Rumsfeld denies that the US provided Saddam Hussein chemical weapons in the 1980s. He was not prepared when archival footage was shown of him visiting Iraq in 1983. At the time Donald Rumsfeld was part of a special envoy to bolster support for Iraq against Iran. Syria  was also discussed in  meetings with Saddam Hussein including the situation in Lebanon. The Bush administration pushed a false claim that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and that Iraq had to be attacked for national security. Donald Rumsfeld also along with other officials made the accusation that Saddam was supporting terrorist organizations. There was no evidence of this and weapons of mass destruction were never found. Rumsfeld left behind a legacy of aggressive warfare, which still effects  the Middle East today.

Blaise Compaore Charged With The Murder of Thomas Sankara

The former president of Burkina Faso has been charged with murder. Campaore deposed the revolutionary Pan-Africanist leader Thomas Sankara in 1987. Campaore would remain in power until 2014, when he was removed by a mass uprising. Since then, he has lived in exile. Sources claim Blaise Compaore remains in Ivory Coast. There some indications that he wanted to make a return to the country. The country has in recent years undergone turbulence from insurgencies and terrorist organizations. The charges are complicity in the murder and undermining state security. Campaore was most likely more involved in the assassination than previously thought. The former president denies the charges and if he does return will fight them in court. Ivory Coast will not extradite him. Former authoritarian leaders have in the past avoided punishment for crimes in the past, However, some have convicted. Hissene Habre of Chad  was arrested in 2016. Blaise Campaore may be able to escape trial or prison. He has the benefit of protection. Unlike the ICC, which has questionable legitimacy this tribunal is the product of Africans. If Burkina Faso is to punish leaders it should be done under their legal system, not an international one. Blaise Campaore  although out of power still has relevance in the politics of Burkina Faso. His trial will allow for a tragic chapter in Burkina Faso's history to be closed.
