The Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant Water Released Into The Pacific Ocean

 

Japan has released the water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean. The IAEA has claimed that the radiation levels are safe and that releasing the war will cause no harm. It would be erroneous to think that is so. The release of radioactive water not only is a concern for public health, but the the aquatic ecosystem. Marine wildlife will be negatively impacted by this development. More radioactive water is going to be released in the coming decades. Seafood production and the fishing industry are going to experience the economic effects. China has already expressed that it will be cautious about purchase of seafood from Japan. The United Nations approved of Japan's plan of disposal of the radioactive water. There is little evidence that discharge of the water is safe. Tokyo Electric Power which operates Fukushima stated that not abnormalities were observed. Environmentalists are growing frustrated with a number of international institutions that favor the release of the water. The first discharge of water is set to reach a total of 7,800 cubic metres. That is not so large that any damage done cannot be reversible. The releases must be stopped for the sake of public health and environmental protection. The biggest concern is the tritium contamination. As long as contaminated water is being released ban on Japanese imports could become permanent. South Korea  Hong Kong, China, and Macau are banning Japanese aquatic imports. Those in the fishing industry are more anxious about how the discharge of radioactive water could impact their business. The Fukushima disaster has never really ended in this regard. Natural disasters are never going away. Which is why buildings and infrastructure should take into account particular engineering needs.    

The World Health Organization Reports The Majority of The World Population Is Breathing Contaminated Air

 

According to a World Health Organization report  the majority of the world is breathing low quality air. Fossil fuel use has not only effected environments, but public health. Every continent has populations that are breathing polluted air. The data was accumulated from cities, towns, and villages across the globe. What it found was air quality was worse in certain locations. The eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia, and Africa had larger amounts of low air quality. Breathing polluted air has been linked to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. The study measured the amount of particulate matter and levels of nitrogen dioxide. Particulate matter refers to substances in the air which could be a mixture of solids. This generated from power plants, transportation,  agriculture, industry, and the burning of waste. Nitrogen dioxide can be generate from exhaust from a large number of automobiles. Particulate matter  is classified as two types. These classifications are known as PM2.5 and PM10. PM2.5 has the ability to enter the body and result in decline in health. A growing concern is the increase of asthma across the world. Children and the elderly could be effected the worst. When compared to  the 2018 database it appear air pollution has gotten worse. Solutions do exist to this environmental crisis. Production of electric cars, alternative energy, and proper regulation of industry can reduce world air pollution levels. The obstacle is getting all nations to agree on platform by the World Health Organization.  

Warnings From The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

 

The IPCC report has issued a warning about climate change. The report noted that across the world's regions the climate system has been altered. The Earth's  temperature is rising and there is a link between carbon dioxide emissions. The result is the exacerbation of the green house effect. This will effect the polar ice caps. The gradual melting will result in rising sea levels. Floods could be more prevalent in the UK, India, South Africa, and the Pacific  region. The IPCC report indicated that the world could reach the 1.5 degree Celsius level. If the temperature goes beyond that then the damage may not be reversible. The new extremes of heat have the the potential to be a public health risk. Too much heat can have a negative impact on agriculture. The water cycle has been effected with not only more floods, but drought in certain parts of the world. The ecosystems of the ocean are going to be harmed. Coastal areas have to consider measures adjusting to rising sea levels. The IPCC report is more mere conjecture. Data was accumulated examining temperature changes from the past to present. The changes in human environment interaction between 1850 and 1900  altered the climate. The use of fossil fuels and the corporations that profit from them are culpable. Governments refuse to challenge this business elite, even when they are contributing to a major environmental crisis. The burning of coal and the emissions from automobiles create higher temperatures. Climate change has occurred without human interference, but economic activity exacerbates a fragile situation. The changes in rainfall patterns could harm basic food security. The constant release of various air pollutants and added methane cause deleterious effects to the environment that could last centuries. More reports are being produced examining paleoclimate compared to the current conditions  and possible solutions.
