Climate Change Is Effecting Developing Nations

Climate change is going to impact public health, the economy, and well being of nations. According to the UN's World Meteorological Organization, weather disasters have surged between 1970 to 2021. The majority of deaths have occurred in developing countries. The data showed that it accounted for 90%. The data was extrapolated from a study of 11, 778 weather disasters. Floods, cyclones, hurricanes, and heatwaves are going to become more powerful. While the focus was on developing counties, least developed countries are going to be at risk. Early warning systems and disaster management is not going to stop the increase in climate change related  incidents. More laws are needed for environmental protection and reducing global emissions. Corporations that are part of the fuel industry have to account for the damages. The burning of coal and the drilling of oil  need to replaced with alternative energy sources. Funding research into new technologies, such a carbon capture plants should be the task of governments and the United Nations. The biggest obstacle is that fossil fuel companies have influence over governments in the EU and North America. These countries continue to exploit and extract the natural resources of the Global South. The West will not be completely shielded from the dramatic shift in climate. Too many extreme climate incidents could negative impact their economies. The UN early warning system will not be effective unless practical solutions are made to address the growing climate crisis. Without a large international climate and environmentalist movement, pressure will not be present for change on a global scale. The evidence is being more visible with higher temperatures and an increase in sea levels.

Bangladesh Relocating An Estimated 7,000 Rohingya Refugees

Bangladesh  since December of 2020 has  been moving Rohingya refugees to Bhasan Char island. The estimated of people relocated so far has been 7,000. This has the potential to be a human rights violation. The government has stated this is voluntary, but some reports have claimed some refugees were forced to get on boats for transport. There is no guarantee that conditions will be any better than the camps that are on the border with Myanmar. The United Nations has not been able to evaluate the island for safety concerns. Refugees are not permitted to leave Bhasan Char once they arrive. This relocation of refugees indicates that either Bangladesh either is preparing for another wave of people crossing the border or is making preparations for future deportation. It cannot be said for certain what the motive is. The sudden coup that has occurred in Myanmar  will at some point impact Bangladesh. More people might flee to the country as protests and violence escalate . The overthrow of a democratically elected government leaves little hope that the Rohingya can be repatriated . As long as ethnic strife continues, Bangladesh may become the Rohingya's permanent home.

Jerry Rawlings Condemns The ICC (2012)

Jerry Rawlings (1947-2020) has passed away. The fourth president of Ghana will be remembered for his revolutionary ideology. He was a controversial figure serving as both a military ruler and then elected civilian president of the country. After serving as president, Rawlings was active as an elder statesmen. Always vocal about foreign policy and the status quo set by the international community, he exposed the most obvious bias. Jerry Rawlings stated in 2012 the flaws of the International Criminal Court. The ICC has only targeted African leaders for war crimes. Never has there been any political figures from the UK, US, France, Germany, or Italy. The deaths that occurred in the NATO intervention in Libya demonstrate that the most powerful nations will never face charges for war crimes. Jerry Rawlings was not afraid to also criticize African leaders who acted as collaborators in neocolonial projects. The myth of humanitarian intervention has been used to wage aggressive war around the world and the UN does nothing to prevent this. Rawlings argument is a reminder that African nations must work together to prevent violence directed at them through political and military means.
