The European Union and African Union are holding their sixth summit. The meeting between members of the two supranational organizations is occurring in Brussels. The diplomatic exchanges are complicated by Europe's past and current history in Africa. Subjects that are going to be discussed will include climate change, the covid-19 pandemic, and nature of AU-EU relations. There is intent on establishing the Africa-Europe Investment Package. The concern is that investment packages are means to extend European control over African countries. Europe could be attempting to challenge the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation with new investment packages. The Global Gateway Investment Package might be another way to either counter or reduce China's influence on the African continent. Africa is making attempts to assert itself in response to European intervention in Africa. France was been active in Mali. French military intervention has been a source of contention. Economic, political, and security factors contribute to difficulties in an effective EU-AU partnership. Only an end to military interventions, structural adjustment, and an unequal partnership will diplomatic relations improve.
