Yoweri Museveni Wins The Ugandan Presidential Election

Yoweri Museveni has won a sixth term as  president of Uganda. He has been leading the country since 1986 and it appears the National Resistance Movement remains as powerful as ever. President Museveni claims he brought stability to Uganda and without him the country could face a crisis. Some have observed that like Milton  Obote and Idi Amin Museveni has an authoritarian governing style. There have been accusations that the elections were not free and have issues with irregularities. Bob Wine the opposition candidate  stated there was fraud, which he intends to expose. He represents the segment of a population that wants to see political change in a country that has been under NRM control for 33 years. Kenya has significant investment in Uganda. Large amounts of their exports go to the country. Kenya may want to see Museveni stay in power longer for  economic reasons. A change in administration could alter economic agreements. It is possible that more constitutional changes could be made to enable him to run once more. The allegations of voter intimidation and vote rigging  are not going away. Museveni won 59% of the vote compared to 35% according to the Ugandan Electoral Commission.
